Southern Shores is a community of volunteers, and the SSCA has many ways to pitch in, meet your neighbors and contribute to our community. Here are some of the opportunities that may be right for you: Sea Grass PlantingSeasonal project in the fall and winter organized by local volunteer extraordinaire Len Schmitz. Get on the email list and come out for an hour when it fits your schedule. Circle Pond RestorationCircle Pond is found on the oceanside between Circle Drive and Periwinkle Place. Be part of the effort to remove invasive phragmites and restore Circle Pond to its natural glory. Work parties are organized throughout the year by Lori Trawinski, who holds a Master of Natural Resources from Virginia Tech. Parking MonitorsCheck cars for the appropriate parking pass in SSCA properties. You get to write tickets and everything! Property MonitorsThe Little Free Libraries and the doggy bags don't monitor themselves. Make sure everything's ship shape and report back to the Volunteer Coordinator. We also need folks who can roll the trash and recycling cans out and back. Architectural Review BoardUphold the Protective Covenants and Conditions. The ARB reviews new construction and remodeling applications for all properties in Southern Shores not covered by another association. No particular background is required, but you should be comfortable reading site plans and understanding deeds. Members are appointed for staggered terms. Audit CommitteeEvery year, we audit ourselves! Makes sure nothing is slipping through the cracks as you review our financials, insurance coverage and more. A financial background is helpful but not required. Board Nominating CommitteeThe Nominating Committee vets and approves the slate of members running for the SSCA Board. Triangle Park CommitteeKeep Triangle Park beautiful! Office VolunteersEnjoy a morning in our historic flat top office while meeting members as they come in to pay dues, pick up parking passes, or ask questions. Training is provided! Properties VolunteersThe SSCA owns and maintains thirty-five dune crossovers, four parks and three marinas. How do we do it? Volunteers! If you like hammering nails and getting your hands dirty, this is is place for you. SSCA BoardThe board is always looking for talented and dedicated members. Board members focus on a particular function and also serve as liaisons to the clubs and committees. See if there's a place for you in the next election! Boat ClubWith events throughout the year, the Boat Club runs on volunteers. Racquet ClubTennis and pickleball enthusiasts unite! Board members and volunteers are always needed to keep the Racquet Club running smoothly.
