Tom Mattingly, Division Commander – Division 16 – Tom has been a member of the Auxiliary since 2020 and currently serves as Division Commander for Northeastern Coastal
North Carolina. He is a certified USCG Auxiliary Coxswain with more than 150 training missions conducted with the U.S. Coast Guard's aircraft and helicopters. Tom is also a certified Instructor, Vessel Examiner, and Uninspected Passenger Vessel Examiner.

Tom moved to the Outer Banks from Northern Virginia in 2006.  He and his wife currently reside in Colington Harbour.  Their daughter is a professional photographer and lives in Kitty Hawk. Tom spent more than 30 years with a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway in management, logistics, and information technology.  Prior to joining the Auxiliary, he volunteered as a docent with the National Park Service at the Wright Brothers National Memorial from 2008 to 2016 and then served for three years on the Board of Directors of the Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts.

What He will talk about:

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on the Outer Banks: PowerPoint deck and a four-minute video that explains the Auxiliary’s national history as well as our local history, who we are and what we do. The Auxiliary’s primary mission is to promote boating safety, and he’ll go over how they do that here. Their other mission is to support the U.S. Coast Guard stations and operations.

Questions He will address:

1. Did you know that the US Coast Guard Auxiliary existed in the OBX?
2. Did you know that there are 6 active-duty station in Division 16’s area?
3. Did you know that this area covers Elizabeth City to Cape Hatteras?
